Gift box option

The gift box option adds a checkbox to the personalization block — “Add a gift box (+$X)”. It’s designed for physical boxes with real stock.

Unlike a simple fee, the gift box is linked to an actual product (variant) in your catalog. That’s deliberate:

  • Shopify tracks its inventory like any product — when you run out of boxes, the option can sell out instead of overselling.
  • Its price is a real variant price: multi-currency conversion, reports and taxes all behave normally.
  • It appears in your analytics as a product, so you know exactly how many boxes you sold.
  1. Create (or pick) the gift-box product in your Shopify catalog, with its price and inventory. You can hide it from your sales channels navigation — it only needs to be purchasable.
  2. In the product’s configuration in the app, enable Gift box, select that variant, and set the checkbox label (translated defaults provided).

When the customer ticks the box, the gift box joins the same inseparable bundle as the product and the engraving fee (see Engraving surcharge) — it can’t be removed separately, and its quantity follows the product’s. The order shows a Gift box property on the personalized line, and the box appears in the bundle for fulfillment.

If the gift-box variant is out of stock, the option is unavailable to customers until you restock — standard Shopify inventory behavior.
