Installation & onboarding

Install the app

1. Open the Optan Engrave & Personalize listing on the Shopify App Store.

2. Click Install and approve the requested permissions. The app asks only for what it needs:

   Permission	Why the app needs it
   Products (write)	Store each product’s personalization configuration in a metafield, and manage the hidden fee product used for the surcharge.
   Orders (read)	Detect personalized orders and list them on the Orders page.
   Themes (read)	Check whether the app block is present in your published theme, to guide onboarding.
   Publications (write)	Publish the hidden fee product to the Online Store channel so it can be added to the cart.
   Cart transforms (read/write)	Register the Shopify Function that bundles the surcharge with the product.

3. The app opens embedded in your Shopify admin, in your admin language (15 languages supported).

The onboarding checklist

The home page shows a three-step checklist. Each step is closable and the checklist disappears once everything is done.

1. Choose a product — pick any product to personalize.
2. Apply the default template — a ready-made configuration (one text field, sensible limits) so there is something to see immediately.
3. Add the block to your theme — a deep link opens the theme editor with the block already placed; you only click Save. See Add the block.

The checklist completes automatically once at least one product is configured and the block is detected in your published theme.

Setup status card

The home page also shows a Setup status card with two indicators:

• Storefront data access — repairs itself automatically on load; you never need to act on it.
• App block in your theme — turns green once the block is saved in your product template.

• The theme-block status, with a one-click link to the theme editor if it ever goes missing.
• Real metrics: configured products, and personalized orders over the last 7 and 30 days.

Uninstalling

Uninstalling never breaks your store: the block simply stops rendering, your theme is left untouched, and product metafields remain (Shopify cleans them up according to its own rules). Your data in the app is deactivated at uninstall and purged after 30 days — see Data & privacy. Reinstalling within that window restores everything.
