Introduction
Optan Engrave & Personalize adds text personalization with a live preview to your Shopify product pages. Your customer types their text, sees it rendered directly on the product photo — in the font, color and position you defined — and the personalization travels with the order all the way to your workshop.
What it does
Section titled “What it does”- Personalization fields on the product page: text fields (with character limits, forced uppercase, validation), checkboxes, conditional fields, material/finish swatches, and customer image upload.
- Live preview on the product photo: the text is overlaid in a zone you draw in the admin, with automatic font-size fitting. Up to five zones per product, curved text, rotation and an engraved-shadow effect.
- An optional surcharge, bundled inseparably with the product in the cart by a Shopify Function — the customer cannot remove the fee while keeping the engraving.
- Clean order data: the customer’s text, font and color arrive as readable line properties in the Shopify admin, order emails and packing slips — plus the app’s own Orders page, printable sheets, CSV export and production-ready SVG files.
What it never does
Section titled “What it never does”These are design guarantees, not just current behavior:
- No theme code injection. Everything is a theme app extension: you add one block in the theme editor; uninstalling leaves your theme exactly as it was.
- No external network requests on your storefront. All configuration is read through Liquid; fonts are embedded in the extension assets. No CDN, no tracking pixel, no third-party scripts.
- No checkout dependency. The app works on every Shopify plan and never modifies your checkout. Shopify Plus is not required for anything.
- Minimal weight: the whole storefront bundle is about 7.6 KB gzipped (budget: 25 KB). Optional modules (multi-zone preview, image upload) are loaded only on products that use them.
