Swatch fields
A swatch field lets the customer pick a material, finish or engraving style from a set of visual options — Brass / Silver / Walnut, Glossy / Matte, Block / Script.
Configuration
Section titled “Configuration”- Up to 12 options per swatch field.
- Each option has a label and an optional hex color:
- options with a hex color render as round color chips,
- options without one render as text pills.
- One option can be preselected as the default.
The editor works exactly like the color palette editor, so it will feel familiar.
Behavior
Section titled “Behavior”- The selected option is transmitted as a line property with the field’s label — it reaches the order, emails and packing slips like any other field.
- A swatch accompanies the personalization: its value is sent along when the customer actually personalizes (like Font and Color), but a default-selected swatch never triggers the surcharge on its own. A customer who just visits the page and leaves the default swatch untouched is not charged an engraving fee.
- Swatch fields are never a preview target — they describe how the engraving is made, not what it says. The preview text always comes from a text field.
