Underage visitors

The setting When a visitor is not old enough controls what a declined visitor sees. “Declined” means they clicked the decline button in Yes/No mode, or entered a date of birth under the applicable minimum age.

Show a message (all plans)

The gate stays on screen and displays your decline message — by default:

Sorry, you are not old enough to enter this store.

The overlay remains in place: the visitor cannot browse the store behind it, scrolling stays locked, and keyboard focus stays inside the dialog. The message text is fully editable in the theme editor (Appearance), so you can add context or point visitors somewhere appropriate.

Redirect to a URL (Pro)

Choose Redirect to a URL and enter a Redirect URL to send declined visitors away from your store — for example to an information page about age restrictions, or simply to a search engine:

https://www.google.com

• Full https:// URLs and store-relative paths (like /pages/age-info) are accepted. A bare domain such as example.com is automatically treated as https://example.com.
• The redirect replaces the current page in the browser history, so pressing Back doesn’t bounce the visitor straight into the gated page again.

Which behavior to pick?

• Message keeps the visitor on a dead end inside your domain — simple, and the safest default.
• Redirect removes them from the store entirely — the stricter posture, often preferred for alcohol and tobacco regulations, and it prevents underage visitors from continuing to see the (blurred-out) restricted page behind the overlay.

Good to know

• A decline is not remembered the way a pass is: the gate simply shows again on the next page view or visit. There is no “banned for N days” cookie — a visitor who mis-clicked can simply answer again.
• With the consent log enabled (Pro), each decline is recorded as an anonymous event (outcome, country, time).
• If Pro ends while Redirect is selected, the behavior safely reverts to Show a message (Plans).
