Consent log

The consent log gives you evidence that your age check is actually running: a timestamped record of each time a visitor passed or was declined.

On the app’s Home page (Pro), turn on Log consent events (pass / decline) and save. From then on, every gate interaction is recorded. Events are not captured retroactively — the log starts when you enable it.

Each event stores exactly four things:

Field Example Notes
Result Passed / Declined The visitor’s outcome
Country FR Two-letter code from your store’s localization context; empty if unknown
Date & time 2026-09-14 18:32 UTC When the event happened
Store your-store.myshopify.com Which store it belongs to (yours)

And nothing else. No IP address, no user agent, no cookie identifier, no customer link, no entered birth date. An event cannot be tied to a person — which is what keeps the log GDPR-lean. Details in Data & cookies.

Open Consent log in the app’s navigation. You’ll see the total number of recorded events and the list with date, result and country columns.

When a visitor answers the gate, their browser sends the event using navigator.sendBeacon to /apps/optan/consent — a first-party endpoint on your own store domain, forwarded to the app by Shopify’s app proxy. No third-party domain is contacted; the beacon never delays navigation or redirects.

Because logging is best-effort by design (it must never block a shopper), an aggressive ad blocker on a visitor’s browser can occasionally drop an event. Treat the log as strong evidence of diligence, not a per-visitor audit trail — it is anonymous by construction, so it couldn’t identify a specific visitor anyway.

Events are kept while the app is installed. When you uninstall, all consent events are permanently deleted as part of the shop data erasure Shopify triggers after uninstall (see the privacy policy).
