Appearance

The gate’s look — texts, logo and colors — is configured in the theme editor, on the Optan Age Verification app embed. That’s deliberate: the theme editor gives you a live preview on your actual storefront while you tweak.

To get there: app Home → Activate in theme editor, or Online Store → Themes → Customize → App embeds → Optan Age Verification.

Texts

Seven text fields cover everything the gate can say. All of them are free text — write them in any language and tone you like.

Only the fields for your active verification method appear on the gate: Yes/No mode uses the two buttons, date-of-birth mode uses the label and submit button.

Pro: automatic translation

If Show the gate in the visitor’s language is enabled (Pro), the built-in translations replace these text fields for all 14 supported locales — see Languages.

Logo

Pick any image from your Shopify files. It renders centered above the heading, sized for the dialog (240 px wide source is plenty). Leave it empty for a text-only gate.

Colors

Five color settings, each with a sensible default:

Keep the contrast

The defaults meet accessibility contrast guidelines. If you brand the colors, keep text-on-surface and button-text-on-button clearly readable — the gate is a legal checkpoint, and every visitor must be able to read it.

What you can’t restyle (on purpose)

The gate’s layout, focus behavior and overlay mechanics are fixed: it always covers the full screen, always traps keyboard focus, and can’t be closed with Escape or by clicking the backdrop. Those guarantees are what make it an age gate rather than a dismissible popup. The dialog is announced to screen readers with proper role="dialog" semantics.

Performance footprint

The embed adds roughly 6 KB of JavaScript and 2 KB of CSS to your storefront, loads no external resources, and reads its configuration without any network request. See the FAQ for details.
