Test your gate
Once you pass the gate, a small cookie remembers your choice for the number of days you configured — which means you won’t see the gate on your own store while testing. Two built-in helpers bring it back.
Option A — the “Test the gate” button
Section titled “Option A — the “Test the gate” button”On the app’s Home page, click Test the gate. It opens your storefront with the remembered choice cleared, so the gate shows again immediately.
Option B — the reset URL parameter
Section titled “Option B — the reset URL parameter”Append ?optan_ag_reset=1 to any page of your storefront:
https://your-store.com/?optan_ag_reset=1https://your-store.com/collections/spirits?optan_ag_reset=1This clears the optan_ag_pass cookie for that browser and shows the gate
again. It’s handy for testing on a phone, or for sending a test link to a
colleague.
What to check
Section titled “What to check”A quick test pass worth doing before you move on:
- Pass path — confirm you’re old enough; the gate closes and doesn’t reappear while browsing.
- Decline path — reset, then decline. Depending on your settings the gate shows your custom message, or redirects to the URL you configured (Underage visitors).
- Date-of-birth mode — try a birth date just under and just over the minimum age. The check runs entirely in the browser, on local time, so birthdays are counted correctly in every timezone.
- Targeting (Pro) — visit a targeted product and a non-targeted product; the gate should appear only on the first (Targeting).
- Keyboard access — the dialog traps focus,
Tabcycles through its buttons, andEscapedoes not dismiss it. Screen readers announce it as a modal dialog.
The in-app preview
Section titled “The in-app preview”The Home page also offers a Preview modal that renders the gate inside the admin without touching your storefront. It’s a simplified rendering: your colors, logo and custom texts come from the theme editor settings, so always do a final check on the real storefront.
