Installation
Optan Age Verification installs like any Shopify app, directly from the App Store. Installation takes under a minute; the gate itself goes live in a couple more clicks (covered in Setup).
Requirements
Section titled “Requirements”- A Shopify store on any plan.
- The Online Store sales channel. The storefront gate runs as a theme app embed inside your Online Store theme, so the app requires this channel. Shopify POS is not supported — the gate applies to your web storefront only.
- A theme that supports app embeds (every Online Store 2.0 theme does, including all free Shopify themes).
Install the app
Section titled “Install the app”- Open the app’s listing on the Shopify App Store and click Install.
- Review the permissions screen in your Shopify admin and approve.
- The app opens embedded in your admin, on its Home page.
Permissions the app asks for
Section titled “Permissions the app asks for”The app requests the minimum scopes it needs:

The app never reads customers, orders, or checkout data, and it never writes to your products or theme code. The gate is delivered as a theme app embed that you can switch off at any time from the theme editor.
What installing does — and does not — change
Section titled “What installing does — and does not — change”- No theme code is edited. The gate is an app embed; uninstalling the app removes it completely, with no leftover code in your theme.
- Nothing shows on your storefront yet. After installation the gate is off by default. It appears only after you enable it and activate the theme embed — the next page walks through both steps.
